Cute Valentine Box Idea #20 - Monster!

 

My friend posted this to die for and EASY Valentine box {Top} and said I could share it.  Then my sweet cousin posted the one on the bottom that is another cute and sassy monster. I think Monster boxes are all the talk this year! The older my kids get, the more I crave cute, but SIMPLE. Nothing more than some wrapping paper, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, construction paper and foam stickers. Oh and a little feather boa! Anyway, thought I would share in case you need something quick and simple!

Cute Valentine Box Idea #19 - Vending Machine!

This Vending Machine was a huge hit - I had better pictures but lost them when my phone crashed! 

Supplies:

Large box

Light Red cardstock paper or wrapping paper.

Dark Red Cardstock to cut child's name letters out of and for hearts.

Saran Wrap

Tape

9 small boxes of candy

Glue

Knife or Scissors.

How to make:

1. Cut a large square out of the front of the box.

2. Cut a piece of Saran wrap the size of the front of the box and tape it to the inside of the box - make sure to tape it very well so it will hold up.

3. Glue or tape the 9 boxes of candy face out so that you can see all 9 of them from the front of the box.

4. Once the candy is laying down, cut another piece of saran wrap and put it behind the candy boxes. Secure this second piece of saran wrap very tightly to hold the boxes of candy in. Tape all around the saran wrap edges onto the inside of the box.

5. Close the box lid with tape or glue.

6. Wrap the box with red wrapping paper or red cardstock paper. Ideally entirely around the box if you have enough! Make sure not to cover the saran wrap area!

7. Cut a slit out of the top or side of the box to insert valentines.

8. Decorate the box with darker red, pink and/or purple hearts.  Cut out the letters of your child's name if desired and glue to the box.  Decorate to your hearts content!

This was a fun, unique box that my son was so happy about.

Creative Valentine's Box #16 -#18 French Fries, Hot Air Balloon and Rubix Cube

These are too cute to not share! My friend, Ivey, made these with her kids last year and I fell in love with them.  Such cute boxes to add to my collection of favorites! A McDonalds French Fry Valentine Box, A Hot Air Balloon Valentine 'Basket' and a Rubix Cube Valentines Box...

Creative Valentine's Box #15 - Batmobile

 Here's a cute Batmobile box my sister did with her son!

Supplies needed:

Shoe Box

Cardboard

Black Spray Paint

Yellow Spray Paint

Yellow Vinyl shapes or yellow paper

Yellow and Red Tissue Paper

Toilet Paper or Paper Towel empty tube

Optional: Batman Ducktape

Scissors

Hot Glue Gun/Glue

Directions: 

1. Cut cardboard to desired shapes to make top of the car, wings and wheels. Trim paper towel tubes down to desired sizes for tail pipe and bottom of the propeller.

2. With hot glue gun, attach all the parts of the car EXCEPT the propeller and stand to be in the shape you desire. Cut a hole out of the back of the shoe box and slip paper towel tube in for tail pipe. (Optional, if you have batman ducktape, wrap the tail pipe with this instead of spray painting it. If you do this, don't attach it until you have spray painted.)

3. Spray paint the entire car/wheels/top with black spray paint.

4. Cut 6 cardboard strips of cardboard for the propeller.

5. Spray paint propeller strips with yellow spray paint and let them dry. Also spray paint toilet paper tube for the base of the propeller.

6. Once propeller parts are dry, hot glue together and affix to the car.

7. You can either make batman yellow shapes with a vinyl cutter or with yellow cardstock paper.  Affix these to the car where desired.

8. Cut an opening flap out of the front of the box to drop Valentines into.

9. If tail pipe still needs to be put on, do so now and then hot glue red and yellow tissue paper coming out of the tail pipe to look like fire.

Creative Valentine's Box #14 - Star Wars Yoda Box

Star Wars Valentine's Box

For all your little and big Star Wars Fans brought to you by my talented sister at Wishful Thinking Photography!

Supplies:
Shoebox or Cereal Box
Green Paint
Scissors
Green Construction Paper
Jedi Costume
Printed Yoda Head
Tape or Glue

1. Paint a show box or empty cereal box green (make sure you cut out an insert for Valentines first!).
2. Print a Yoda Head off the internet, like the one here...
3. Wrap your dry green painted box with a jedi costume. (If you don't have one, you can make a homemade one or buy one through Amazon!)
4. Glue or tape the printed Yoda head to the top of the box. 
5. Cut two feet out of green construction paper and glue to the bottom of the box.

Creative Valentine Box #13 - Valentine's Wii!

My 4th grade daughter made this Wii Valentine's Box all herself and I thought it was a fun idea! This is about as easy and simple as it gets and I loved that she was able to do it 100% herself...

Supplies Needed:

Smaller Sized Cereal Box

Scissors

White Butcher Paper/Wrapping Paper (Regular Paper can work as well)

Tape

White or Red String

2 Rectangular wooden blocks (or empty boxes)

Marker

Paper Hearts, Foam Heart Stickers or other Decor

Directions:

1. Wrap the Cereal box and 2 Rectangular Wooden Blocks with white paper

2. At the end of the cereal box, cut a rectangular opening for Valentines to be able to be inserted.

3. With a marker, draw the buttons and words on the Wii remotes to match.

4. Tape or glue paper hearts and foam stickers on the Wii and remotes as desired.

5. Tape String to the end of the remote to symbolize the cords.  My daughter did it in a big loop.

Simple, make it yourself, and cute!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Creative Valentine box #12 - Rocket

My little guy has his eyes set on being an astronaut someday, so a rocket was his Valentine Box request.  Here's how he created one, mostly on his own! 

Materials needed: Large cardboard tube {ours was actually from a lava lamp}with lid, kitchen funnel, 2 pringle containers {or similar sized container}with no lids, tinfoil, Black letters NASA, 2 red balloons, clear packing tape, colorful foam hearts of various sizes, knife, glue.

1.Wrap 3 containers and funnel entirely with tin foil. For the two smaller containers, keep the open end exposed by wrapping tinfoil into the inside of the container.

2.Using a large knife {this is the part I helped my son with}, cut a rectangular slit through the top of the tall cylinder allowing a spot for valentines to be placed in.

3. Using packing tape, attach funnel to tall cardboard cylinder.  Since it's clear, you won't see the tape. Use the same tape and tape the two smaller cylinders to the tall cylinder in order to have rocket boosters. Make sure the all containers are facing downward with the open end facing down. The shorter side cylinders should be slightly off the ground allowing room for balloon boosters. The taller cylinder should have the lid facing down in order to catch the valentines.

4. Blow red balloons, but only part way.  Small enough that they can be squished inside the open end of the two side cylinders.  This will give the impression of red fire from the rocket boosters. If you inflate them just perfectly, they squish in and then don't fall out!

5. Glue the letters, N,A,S,A on the tall cylinder vertically.

6. Decorate the rocket to your desire with colorful hearts.  We used Foam hearts as they are so easy to work with, but construction paper or cardstock would work too.  Glue or tape the hearts on and voila!  You've got a rocket!

Creative Valentine Box #11 - Toilet

You are seeing it right.  My daughter requested to make a toilet Valentine's box.  So we did!  As I've said in the past, she loves to think outside of the box {If you remember, she was a refrigerator for Halloween!}. Here's our step by step instructions:

1. Take a cardboard box and wrap it in white butcher paper or wrapping paper.

2. Use a white bucket {this could be a kitchen bowl, empty ice cream bucket, etc.} and with clear tape {I used packing tape} tape it entirely around the box forming the toilet bowl.

3. Decorate toilet bowl to your desire.  It's easiest to use Foam Heart Stickers as they will stick to the packing tape and bowl easily. We put a simple row across the top as shown.
4. Cut out a large heart out of red poster board for the toilet lid and tape this to the back of the bowl only, allowing it to still be opened.
5.  To insert string through the center of the box, tape string to the end of a long chi-ca-bob stick.  Poke the entire stick through the center of the box clear to the back.  Pull the stick through leaving some string on the front of the box.  You should now have string at the front and back of the box. Take the chi-ca-bob stick off, leaving only the string. {You can also use a YOYO   string as I did.  I found cute Valentine YOYOS and my string for the toilet WAS the YOYO string.  This allowed for a fun handle at the back of the toilet as shown.
6. At this point for aesthetic reasons, I poked a hole through the center of 2 red foam hearts, one for the front of the box and one for the back of the box to try and hide the holes in the white box.  You can let them hang or tape them to the box.  See picture below.

7. With scissors or chi-ca-bob stick, poke a hole in the center of the cardboard heart toilet lid. Put the string through this hole and tape it to the inside of the lid so it will not slip through.
8. If you did not use a YOYOS , attach some sort of 3d or paper heart to the end of the string on the back so the string will not slip through to the center of the box.

9.  At this point, the string from the back of the toilet should work in a way where you can lift the lid of the toilet by pulling on it.  Then just manually put the toilet seat lid down to try again.
10.  The final step was sprucing up the toilet.  I added a foam heart to the inside of the toilet lid to hide my string hole.  I added a fun red and white ribbon around the box.  I put red cardboard on the top of the box so it had more red accents. Do whatever spruces it up for you!
11.  Hot glue a VALENTINE YOYO to the side for a toilet flushing handle.
12.  Finally, I added some pink tulle inside the white bucket for some pink accent.

This was really fun to try something different.  My daughter got lots of attention on Valentine's Day for having something different.  And we had fun in the process.

Creative Valentine Box #10 - Robot Version 2

A reader took this Robot Valentine post we wrote and made her own version 2!  We love it!

1.  Gather 2 boxes.  One box was the size of an amazon box and the other a shoebox.
2.  Wrap the boxes in craft or butcher paper.
3.  Glue or tape the boxes together.
4.  Next, cut a mouth hole for the shoebox. We actually had a hole on the top of the amazon box and a trap door in the back so the valentines went through the mouth but were retrieved out the back.
5.  Eyes are juice bottle lids that are glued onto the smaller box.
6.  Glue toilet paper tubes to the sides of the smaller box to make ears.
7.  Glue 16 smarties to the center of the box in a pattern.
8.  Spray paint everything silver.
9.  Glue black construction paper circles on after the spray paint has dried.
7.  Slinkies were glued on at first but they were too heavy for the glue so we reinforced them with silver duck tape.  Use 4 total - 2 for the arms and 2 for the legs.

Creative Valentine Box #9 - Lego Brick

My sister, Heidi, created a very fun Valentine box perfect for those lego-crazy boys!  It was so easy.

1. Cover the box with red wrapping paper.
2. Cut a hole in the side to allow Valentines to be inserted.
3.  At first we tried just gluing the tops of red Solo cups to the paper but they kept falling off. So we cut circular holes in the box and inserted the cups through the holes (from underneath the box so the were wider underneath and stayed in place).
4.  Add glue to secure.

Adaptation: You can make a similar box with a plain cardboard box, cardboard toilet paper tubes (cut down to size) and then spray paint everything the same color!

Creative Valentine Box #8 - Valentines Heart Guitar

My second daughter decided she wanted a guitar.  The night before Valentines.  No time to make a fancy guitar like we'd seen at school the previous year.. his grandpa had a wood cutting shop and it was amazing!

So we came up with our homemade guitar.  Hope you enjoy:

Supplies Needed: Small shoe box, fernwood mints box or similar sized rectangular box, knife, scissors, pink and purple construction, red wrapping paper/construction paper or butcher paper, tape, glue, red skinny ribbon, 4-6 yo-yos or round objects, hot glue.

1.  Wrap two boxes (shoe box and rectangular box) in red wrapping paper, construction paper or butcher paper.  Wrap like a present by taping the ends down.
2. Using a knife is most effective to cut a square in the side of the shoe box the size of the rectangular skinny box so it can fit snuggly inside.  I also used the knife to cut a heart shape out of the top of the box large enough to slip valentines in (I actually wrapped the box lid and box separately so friends could actually lift the lid of the box to put larger valentines in and my daughter could open the lid to remove the valentines without ruining her box.
3. Cut pink and purple hearts out of paper and glue them around the boxes as decoration.
4. Cut 4-6 lengths of red ribbon the length of both boxes.  Stretch them across, taping down their ends on the underside of the lid and/or box as to hide the ends.  If you do it on the underside of the box, you can even hide the ends by gluing a decorative heart on top.
5.  Hot glue 4-6 yo-yos at the end of the rectangular box to look like the tuning knobs on a guitar.
6.  Voila! Enjoy!

Creative Valentine Box #7 - Television

My oldest decided to make her own box last year and made this cute television set that I thought I'd share.

Needed: Box, red/purple/pink construction paper, black sharpie marker, glue, 2-4 black pipe cleaners, knife, scissors, wax paper

1. Cut off the flaps of the box so that one side is entirely open.
2. Wrap the open end of the box with wax paper and tape the sides so it is flush with the top of the box.
3. Wrap the remaining sides of the box with red construction paper, wrapping paper or butcher paper.
4. Cut out pink, purple and red hearts and glue them to the sides of the box.
5. Using a knife, cut a rectangular slit out of the top of the box for valentines to go into.
6. Twist the pointed end of the knife around to create one hole on either side of the rectangle just big enough for pipe cleaners to go into.
7.  Slide pipe cleaners into the prepared holes and twist the tops of each pipe cleaner into the shape of a heart to create heart antennas.
8.  On a piece of purple construction paper, write what you desire.  Her television read: Happy Valentines from KUPD News (KUPD stands for Cupid)
9.  Add remaining cut out heart and arrows to the purple paper.
10. Glue purple paper gently on top of the wax paper as to not poke a hole. (I actually used photo mat glue because it is very sticky and you don't have to push hard)

Creative Valentine Box #6 - Castle

Castle

Supplies: Cereal box, 2 paper towel rolls (empty), purple foam paper, light pink foam paper, dark pink foam paper, glitter glue, conversation hearts, ribbon, red popsicle sticks, heart stickers.

Instructions:
1. Wrap cereal box and paper towel rolls with pink paper (butcher paper works great for this)
2. Cut 3 hearts out of the 3 different colors of paper.  Make each heart slightly larger than the previous one that is cut.
3.  Cut a door and 2 triangle flags out of the dark pink foam
4.  Cut 2 hearts and 2 semi circles out of the purple foam.
5. Glue ribbon around the paper towel rolls.
6.  Glue the following onto the cereal box front in order: door, hearts largest to smallest, conversation hearts around the door.
7.  Roll purple semi circles up and tape to make into tower tops leave a small opening.
8.  Glue purple hearts on pink flags and glue flags onto red popsicle sticks.
9.  Tie ribbons on popsicle sticks and place the sticks in the top of the purple tower tops.
10.  Hot glue tower tops to paper towel rolls.
11.  Hot glue paper towel rolls to cereal box.
12.  Add glitter glue for name, around hearts on flag, in center of hearts on the front of the box, and at the bottom of the purple tower tops.  Add stickers on towers or wherever you desire!

Creative Valentine Box #5 - Lion

Lion

Supplies needed: shoe box, brown paper or brown grocery sack, black marker, red paper, raffia, glue

Instructions:

1. Wrap a shoe box with brown paper or a recycled brown paper grocery sack.

2. Cut a circle out of the same paper for the face and a hole to insert valentines out of the center of the box.

3.  Cut hearts out of red paper for decoration, a nose and a tail.

4.  Also out of red paper, cut a bow if you want it to be a girl lion.

5. Cut about 3" pieces of raffia (as many as needed) and glue them around the circumference of the face.

6.  Cut a tail out of raffia that is about 6-8" long.

7.  Draw the face on the lion.

8.  Glue hearts for a nose and decoration and on the tip of the tail.  Also glue the bow on if you decided to include that.

9.  Glue face to the front of the shoebox and the tail to the back of the shoebox.

10.  Add your child's name if you want!

Creative Valentine Box #4 - Ladybug

Ladybug

Supplies needed: shoebox, red paper, hot glue, glue, red ribbon, black pipe cleaner, googly eyes, black marker.

Instructions:

1.  Glue red paper on the outside of a shoe box.

2. Cut out a hole to insert valentines on the top of the box.

3.  Cut a heart shaped face (more of a half heart)

4. Decorate the box with hearts instead of spots.  

5. Decorate the Ladybug's face

6. Hot glue googly eyes to ladybug's face

7.  Hot glue ribbon to the bottom of the box and bottom of the face.

8.  Curl 2 black pipe cleaners by wrapping it around a pencil. 

9.  Cut out 2 hearts from the red paper and glue them to the top of the pipe cleaner.

10.  Tie a bow on each of the 2 pieces of pipe cleaner below the heart.

11. Glue face to side of the Valentine box.

12.  Tape or glue pipe cleaners behind the face to look like antennas.

(note: if you do this correctly, you can open and close the box to get valentines out without ruining the box.)

Creative Valentine Box Idea #3 - Robot

Robot

Supplies needed:

Two cardboard boxes (preferably of different sizes), two toilet paper rolls, smarties, silver spray paint, cardboard hearts, pink pipe cleaners, red cardstock, hot glue gun, black marker

Instructions:

1. spray paint both cardboard boxes, toilet paper rolls and smarties silver

2. Hot glue cardboard boxes together. These will be the head and body.

3. Hot glue toilet paper rolls to larger box.  These will be the legs.

4. Cut out 2 large paper hears out of red cardstock. 

5. Hot glue paper hearts to the toilet paper rolls for the feet.

6. Curl pipe cleaners with a pencil, for fun, we bent the "hands" into heart shapes.

7.  Glue pipe cleaners to both sides of the larger box.

8. Cut a hole out of the larger box for the valentines to go through.

9. Hot glue smarties around the edges if the smaller box and down the middle front of the larger box for a more robot look.

10.  Hot glue cardboard hearts (di-cuts or stickers work, too) for the eyes and decoration.

11. Draw a smile on your robots face!

Creative Valentine Box Ideas #2 - Ipod

Ipod (I adapted this from something I found at Family Fun, which is another great craft idea!)

Supplies needed: cereal box, pink foam, red pipe cleaner, red cardstock, printed list of songs/ipod dial from Family Fun, white yarn, hot glue gun, cardboard hearts(I got these from cardboard heart thumbtacks at the Dollar Store and just took off the thumbtacks).

Instructions:

1. Cover the cereal box with pink foam, cut to size. (Note: this can be changed to a different color for a boy!)

2. Hot glue red pipe cleaners on the four corner sides of the cereal box.

3.  Cut out printed song list and ipod dial.

4.  Cut red cardstock 1/4 inch bigger on each side of the song list and ipod dial and glue to back of them.

5.  Hot glue song list and ipod dial onto box.

6.  Hot glue cardboard hearts (or stickers) to box.

7.  Cut white yarn to the desired length.

8.  Hot glue cardboard hearts to one end of the yarn.

9.  Tape the other end of the yarn to the inside of the cereal box

10.  If desired, add your child's name to it

Creative Valentine Box Ideas #1 - Gumball Machine

One of my kid's favorite things to do is make valentine boxes for school.  So, I try to keep a running file of ideas for future years.  Last year, we invented this bubblegum machine and it was a hit!  We kind of had a bubblegum theme going that year... (see my daughter's Halloween costume).

Supplies needed: Cracker box (or other cardboard box), pom poms, glitter glue, black permanent marker, red paint, 2 clear plastic bowls (I bought at the Dollar Store), Hot glue, colorful balls, milk carton lid.

Instructions:

1. Paint the box red.

2. Paint the milk lid red.

3.  Cut a opening in the box for valentines.

4.  Fill clear plastic bowl with balls.  Place other plastic bowl on top.  Stick together with hot glue.

5.  Decorate box with pom poms, glitter glue, "5 cents", name, stickers or anything else.

6.  Hot glue milk lid to top of bowl/ball structure.

7.  Hot glue bowl/ball structure to the box.
