This game was so popular and fun at our party! We played it like the typical twister - where I had cards for the colors and cards for left hand, left foot, right hand and right foot. We pulled one color card and one hand/foot card out per turn and the kids had to follow the instructions. For example, if I pulled out a green card and the right hand, they put their right hand on the green heart. {We pulled the color and hand/foot cards out of Valentine lunch sacks, but it could be in any container}. We continued until someone fell or it got too hard. I had 3 kids at a time on my board as it was small. Since my groups for the class party had 5 or 6 kids in them, whoever wasn't on the board, got to draw out the color cards and hand/foot cards. They loved it! If I were to do it again, I might try to create a board on white butcher paper and laminate the whole thing for longevity as this was perfect for one day, but wouldn't last past that. It was very enjoyed.

Cute Valentine Box Idea #20 - Monster!
My friend posted this to die for and EASY Valentine box {Top} and said I could share it. Then my sweet cousin posted the one on the bottom that is another cute and sassy monster. I think Monster boxes are all the talk this year! The older my kids get, the more I crave cute, but SIMPLE. Nothing more than some wrapping paper, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, construction paper and foam stickers. Oh and a little feather boa! Anyway, thought I would share in case you need something quick and simple!

Cute Valentine Box Idea #19 - Vending Machine!
This Vending Machine was a huge hit - I had better pictures but lost them when my phone crashed!
Supplies:
Large box
Light Red cardstock paper or wrapping paper.
Dark Red Cardstock to cut child's name letters out of and for hearts.
Saran Wrap
Tape
9 small boxes of candy
Glue
Knife or Scissors.
How to make:
1. Cut a large square out of the front of the box.
2. Cut a piece of Saran wrap the size of the front of the box and tape it to the inside of the box - make sure to tape it very well so it will hold up.
3. Glue or tape the 9 boxes of candy face out so that you can see all 9 of them from the front of the box.
4. Once the candy is laying down, cut another piece of saran wrap and put it behind the candy boxes. Secure this second piece of saran wrap very tightly to hold the boxes of candy in. Tape all around the saran wrap edges onto the inside of the box.
5. Close the box lid with tape or glue.
6. Wrap the box with red wrapping paper or red cardstock paper. Ideally entirely around the box if you have enough! Make sure not to cover the saran wrap area!
7. Cut a slit out of the top or side of the box to insert valentines.
8. Decorate the box with darker red, pink and/or purple hearts. Cut out the letters of your child's name if desired and glue to the box. Decorate to your hearts content!
This was a fun, unique box that my son was so happy about.

Changing Your View of Valentine's Day -Filling the World with Love!
My dear friend wrote this as her Facebook status and I asked if I could share it here. I thought she said it so well, so here's her post on making the most of Valentine's Day!
Written by Leslie Kawaii
COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TO VALENTINES DAY!
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CELEBRATE??
12 years ago this month my then-husband unexpectedly deployed to Iraq. Within five days from when we got the call, he shipped out. I was 5 months pregnant. My parents had just separated weeks before. My grandparents (whom I was very close to) had been in a car accident the week before; the day my husband flew off to war was my grandfather's funeral. At that time, because we were in state of war, we rarely got to speak by phone (usually just one 5-min call per week).
This was just a couple weeks before Valentines Day.
I was surrounded by so much sadness.
I had two toddlers. I was pregnant. I was the oldest child of a family struggling through my parents' soon-to-be divorce. I was grieving over my grandparents. I couldn't talk to my husband. I didn't know when or if I would see him again. .. I felt SO alone. (Pregnancy hormones didn't help ;-))
I decided that Valentines Day would be about expressing and showing love -- FILLING THE WORLD WITH LOVE -- instead of focusing on the love I felt missing and the present pain I saw around me. BEST. DECISION. EVER!
I bought my little girls flowers. I gave single sisters cards and chocolates. I wrote love notes to people I cared about.
And . . . VALENTINES DAY BECAME ONE OF MY FAVORITE HOLIDAYS!!
Two years later I was alone again, but because my husband had moved out.
I was SOO grateful I knew how to make the day amazing and wonderful.
I decided to fill Valentines Day with so much LOVE--GIVE it. SHARE it. SPREAD it--that my heart would be able to feel only LOVE on that day.
Here are a few of my FAVORITE VALENTINE TRADITIONS!
________________________________________________
And really--we don't need a holiday to TELL SOMEONE WE LOVE THEM!!!
FOR MY FAMILY----
TRAIL OF HEARTS. I create a "trail of hearts" each year for my children, which they now look forward to! I put a paper-hearts-and-candy trail from each of their beds to a special breakfast table--with nice dishes and candles and decorations and their special notes and gifts all arranged! We have waffles and fruit and pink dip and eggs and bacon, etc. My son has already asked me, "Mom, you're doing the trail of hearts right??" He asks every year, and every year I assure him YES! And every year he can't sleep the night before on "Valentines Eve!"
LOVE NOTES. write my children love notes. This takes time, but to me is my favorite part. Every year I reflect on how grateful I am I have taken at least this one day to pen my thoughts of love to my child.
LOVE CERTIFICATES .I give my kids fun gift certificates they can use throughout the year (coupons for things like "1 free hour of TV" "1 book purchase of their choice" "dessert of their choice" etc. etc.) They have 1 year to use them up and they can redeem only one a day. I always honor them--even if it's the worst possible night ever for them to bring their "1 free movie with mom" night to me, lol! I also learned the hard way that you really need to take and tear up the coupon so it doesn't magically appear again, haha!
BOOK ABOUT LOVE. I give my kids each a book about love for their future children. These are some favorites: "I'll Love you Forever" "Runaway Bunny" "Guess How Much I Love You" "You are Special"
PINK FRUIT DIP. PINK ICE CREAM. PINK MILK. PINK. PINK. PINK. PINK. (One of favorite traditions?--I always dip the rim of our breakfast goblets in pink sugar crystals for fun, frosted glasses!)
FOR OTHERS---
Whenever I feel a "lack" in my life I think to myself, "WHAT CAN I DO TO CREATE THE ENERGY OR FEELING I'M DESIRING?"
Sooo… if I start feeling sad about not having "romance" at the moment . . I do some of the following:
GIFT CARDS. I give out Victoria's Secret gift cards or bubble bath salts or gift bags with Martinelli, etc. to couples who I know CAN celebrate…
FLOWERS, CHOCOLATES. I give flowers--sometimes even just a single rose--to single sisters. Divorcees who I know are aching. Widows longing for their spouses. Married women struggling to feel their worth.
LETTERS OF APPRECIATION. What a great day to write a letter or give a gift to a couple you admire or someone who shows love. I'm SOOO grateful for couples who treasure their marriage, who hold hands, who kiss! I'm grateful for those couples who are struggling and doing their best to figure out how to show love to each other. We ALL need that "cheering on" that a letter of appreciation can do!
VISITS. When I'm alone on a holiday, I love to visit the elderly in rest homes. Their stories of romance, of loyalty, of honor, of family remind me what I am looking for and trying to create in my life. And, I'm reminded what loneliness really looks like . . and the power we each have to create connection with others. When my mother was single, certain holidays she would anonymously buy a flower and take it to someone who might be forgotten. That example has always stuck with me as I think of her courage in deciding to bring beauty to someone's life instead of focusing on sadness.
FOR MYSELF--
PAMPER MYSELF. pamper myself in some way: buy myself flowers or chocolates or take a bubble bath or buy a creme brûlée or watch a favorite movie!
So GRATEFUL TODAY for the reminders that LOVE is around us in ABUNDANCE! We just have to tap in to the source, to God, who desires to give to all men liberally. . . . and then we get to have the joy of SHARING IT!!
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! 14 DAYS AND COUNTING!

Cute Homemade Valentines for School Kids
Last year I realized we had moved to a very creative area when my son received 4 homemade Valentines that were adorable and fairly easy {Although not nearly as easy as those Dollar Store Valentine Boxes!}. Had to share with you all!
"I Chews You!" with a bag of gumballs
"You are one in a Minion" with a Minion Twinkie (Some of the cutest, but way more intricate, Minion Twinkies I've seen were here!)
"Valentine of all the fish in the sea... You're the one for me!" with a baggie of goldfish
"So Glad We're In The Same School!" With a baggie of Swedish Fish. Notice that the card is designed like a fishbowl to represent a "School of Fish"

Creative Valentine box #12 - Rocket
My
little guy has his eyes set on being an astronaut someday, so a rocket
was his Valentine Box request. Here's how he created one, mostly on his
own!
Materials
needed: Large cardboard tube {ours was actually from a lava lamp}with
lid, kitchen funnel, 2 pringle containers {or similar sized
container}with no lids, tinfoil, Black letters NASA, 2 red balloons,
clear packing tape, colorful foam hearts of various sizes, knife, glue.
1.Wrap
3 containers and funnel entirely with tin foil. For the two smaller
containers, keep the open end exposed by wrapping tinfoil into the
inside of the container.
2.Using
a large knife {this is the part I helped my son with}, cut a
rectangular slit through the top of the tall cylinder allowing a spot
for valentines to be placed in.
3.
Using packing tape, attach funnel to tall cardboard cylinder. Since
it's clear, you won't see the tape. Use the same tape and tape the two
smaller cylinders to the tall cylinder in order to have rocket boosters.
Make sure the all containers are facing downward with the open end
facing down. The shorter side cylinders should be slightly off the
ground allowing room for balloon boosters. The taller cylinder should
have the lid facing down in order to catch the valentines.
4.
Blow red balloons, but only part way. Small enough that they can be
squished inside the open end of the two side cylinders. This will give
the impression of red fire from the rocket boosters. If you inflate them
just perfectly, they squish in and then don't fall out!
5. Glue the letters, N,A,S,A on the tall cylinder vertically.
6.
Decorate the rocket to your desire with colorful hearts. We used Foam
hearts as they are so easy to work with, but construction paper or
cardstock would work too. Glue or tape the hearts on and voila! You've
got a rocket!
My son's homemade creation! He did great!

5 Homemade Valentines for your sweethearts, kids, and friends!
Looking for the perfect Valentine gift for your sweetheart, friend or family?
Here are 5 fun ideas I threw together last year to give a special personal touch.
1. Valentine, You're da Bomb! or You're Dynamite!
I copied this from my cute friend. Isn't it cute?? Inside each tube is a round stack of Oreos. Below is my variation. I used red paper, with black pipe cleaners a top. I tied it all together with black tulle and put the note on it.
2. Valentine You're all "Write"!
Super easy! I found these jumbo pencils at Walmart, but any pencil will do. We gave our kids these cute pencils with some treats last year and affixed the note, "Valentine You're all Write!"
3. "An Extra squeeze on Valentine's Day"
A little sibling gift last year made with squeeze its. You can buy squeeze its 6 for $1, making this super cheap. We attached a cute note with ribbon on top of each bottle. It was a big hit with his siblings.
4. "I Love you to Pieces"
Perfect for Grandparents, parents, siblings, friends, teachers, etc.
These are so easy to make. You simply cut out a paper heart of your color choice. Then let the kids tear as many pieces of colored paper as they would like. Glue the colored paper to the paper heart making a mosaic of colors. Then glue the saying on top after printing it out or write the phrase, "I love you to pieces". This is great because it comes straight from a child's heart and hands!
5. "I'm soda lighted" it's Valentine's Day!
{instead of so "delighted"}
You can do this with cans of soda or little candies as shown above that are in the shape of soda cans.
A really fun and easy way to share a valentine with a friend or family member.

Valentines 2013 - A path of hearts leading to a heart breakfast
Here's a simple last minute Valentine's Day Idea for those who need simplicity, but crave a little touch of creativity:
So last year my kids woke up to a path of hearts leading to heart pancakes for breakfast. The funny thing was when they asked, "Did cupid come?" No, this time, it was just me :) This is a very simple way to spruce up your morning. I made the pancakes by pouring the batter into a heart cookie cutter on the skillet and then threw a few sliced strawberries on top. Add whipped cream and it would be perfect!

Valentine Treat: Heart-shaped Mini Cheesecakes
Remember these delicious mini cheese cakes we shared earlier? Last year I adapted this treat for our Valentine's dinner by turning them into heart shaped cheesecakes.
To do this, I rolled up balls of tin foil and placed one outside each baking cup as in the picture below.
Then, I baked the cheese cakes normally and they came out in heart shapes.
With or without this trick to create heart shapes, these mini cheese cakes definitely make a delicious Valentine's dessert. Find the recipe for these mini cheese cakes here.
You can also use this little trick to turn regular cupcakes or muffins into heart-shaped treats. If you have a set of marbles, those would also work instead of foil balls to create the indentation for heart shapes.

Creative Valentine Box #11 - Toilet
You are seeing it right. My daughter requested to make a toilet Valentine's box. So we did! As I've said in the past, she loves to think outside of the box {If you remember, she was a refrigerator for Halloween!}. Here's our step by step instructions:
1. Take a cardboard box and wrap it in white butcher paper or wrapping paper.
2. Use a white bucket {this could be a kitchen bowl, empty ice cream bucket, etc.} and with clear tape {I used packing tape} tape it entirely around the box forming the toilet bowl.
3. Decorate toilet bowl to your desire. It's easiest to use Foam Heart Stickers as they will stick to the packing tape and bowl easily. We put a simple row across the top as shown.
4. Cut out a large heart out of red poster board for the toilet lid and tape this to the back of the bowl only, allowing it to still be opened.
5. To insert string through the center of the box, tape string to the end of a long chi-ca-bob stick. Poke the entire stick through the center of the box clear to the back. Pull the stick through leaving some string on the front of the box. You should now have string at the front and back of the box. Take the chi-ca-bob stick off, leaving only the string. {You can also use a YOYO
string as I did. I found cute Valentine YOYOS
and my string for the toilet WAS the YOYO
string. This allowed for a fun handle at the back of the toilet as shown.
6. At this point for aesthetic reasons, I poked a hole through the center of 2 red foam hearts, one for the front of the box and one for the back of the box to try and hide the holes in the white box. You can let them hang or tape them to the box. See picture below.

7. With scissors or chi-ca-bob stick, poke a hole in the center of the cardboard heart toilet lid. Put the string through this hole and tape it to the inside of the lid so it will not slip through.
8. If you did not use a YOYOS , attach some sort of 3d or paper heart to the end of the string on the back so the string will not slip through to the center of the box.
9. At this point, the string from the back of the toilet should work in a way where you can lift the lid of the toilet by pulling on it. Then just manually put the toilet seat lid down to try again.4. Cut out a large heart out of red poster board for the toilet lid and tape this to the back of the bowl only, allowing it to still be opened.

8. If you did not use a YOYOS , attach some sort of 3d or paper heart to the end of the string on the back so the string will not slip through to the center of the box.
10. The final step was sprucing up the toilet. I added a foam heart to the inside of the toilet lid to hide my string hole. I added a fun red and white ribbon around the box. I put red cardboard on the top of the box so it had more red accents. Do whatever spruces it up for you!
11. Hot glue a VALENTINE YOYO
12. Finally, I added some pink tulle inside the white bucket for some pink accent.
This was really fun to try something different. My daughter got lots of attention on Valentine's Day for having something different. And we had fun in the process.

10 Creative Homemade Valentines and Valentine Gifts
1. Chocolate Covered Oreo Valentine Suckers
You can give these out with the saying "I'm a Sucker for You" (Cute free printable here)
2. Heart Attack--I did this for my husband on the door to our room. I printed out pictures from the last 10 years of our marriage/dating and then cut out hearts on wrote things I loved about him on each heart.
3. Books with the saying "You Wrote the Book on . . . "
I have a free printable here with the sayings "You Wrote the Book on Being Cool!" and "You Wrote the Book on Being Cute!"
(You could also use this saying with a bookmark instead of a book).
4. Puzzle with the saying "I Love You to Pieces."
This was a puzzle my son's friend made for him by painting a blank heart-shaped puzzle he had purchased at the store. You could also make your own heart shaped puzzle by cutting out a heart on heavy paper, cardboard, or foam board.
5. Felt heart with the saying "Love is Felt."
My sweet 93-year-old grandma made these felt heart magnets for us. It is just a felt heart on a small doily with a magnet on the back.
6. Stained Glass Valentine--I found this idea on Pinterest and created my own version of this valentine to give to my husband. I just used ready-made black puff paint and oil pastels.
7. Lift-a-flap Book Valentine
I made a miniature book out of paper, and then used post-it-notes as my lift-a-flaps. Under each flap I wrote something I loved about the person I was giving the valentine to.
8. Pop-up Valentine--We used this template from Robert Sabuda's Website to make easy pop-up valentines (Check out all of the other pop-up templates on his website as well! They are so fun to do with kids).
9. Melted Crayon Shaving Valentine Hearts--Instructions for these melted crayon hearts are in my L is for Love Post. Basically, place crayon shavings between pieces of waxed paper and use a hot iron to melt the wax and create a cool design.
(In this picture they are hung from the ceiling as decorations, but they could also be used as part of valentine cards).
10. Handprint/Footpint Heart--Nothing is sweeter than seeing your little child's hands or feet preserved in art. You could do two hands together to form a heart:
(I've also seen a heart formed from two feet with the saying, "I love you from the bottom of my heart to the tips of my toes."
Or even one simple handprint on a doily can be sweet. My daughter did this one at the library and it was paired with a quote from the book I'll Love You Forever.

I made these just the same way I made chocolate covered oreos for Christmas, except instead putting crushed up candycanes on top, I put valentine colored sprinkles and stuck a small wooden skewer in the bottom to make it a popsicle. (Regular popsicle sticks don't work as well with oreos because they sometimes are too big and push the oreos apart, but a small wooden skewer makes a great popsicle stick).

Peppermint Dessert
Today, I share with you my husband's absolute favorite dessert! This a great dessert year round, but seems to be served in our house most over the holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Valentines. It's great for large parties, baby showers, and wedding showers because it's light and you can make it go far if you need to. Happy December!
Peppermint Dessert
1 pkg Nab famous choc. wafers (I usually buy these at Harmons Grocery Stores, if you have one)
½ c. margarine
1 pint whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
½ c. peppermint candy (crushed)
¼ c. optional nuts (chopped)
8 oz. mini marshmallows
4-5 drops red food coloring (mix until it looks like cotton candy)
3 drops peppermint flavoring
Crush wafers and melt margarine.
Combine to form crust (reserving 1/3 cup crumbs for the top). Press into 9x13 pan. Whip cream until stiff, add powdered
sugar. Fold in flavoring and food
coloring then candy, marshmallows and optional nuts.
Pour marshmallow mix over the cookie crust. Sprinkle reserve
crumbs on top. Refrigerate.

Valentine Breakfast or Treat Idea: Heart-shaped Doughnuts
Happy Valentine's Day! I hope everyone is looking forward to a fun day of celebrating with family and friends.
If you are looking for a last-minute treat for Valentine's Day you might want to try these heart-shaped doughnuts. We had leftover dough from making beignets for Mardi Gras, so I decided to cut some of the dough into heart shapes to make a Valentine treat for breakfast today.
To make these heart-shaped treats, use the recipe for beignets found here, but instead of cutting your dough into squares, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough into heart shapes. Then fry just the same way you would fry regular doughnuts. Serve with powdered sugar on top and enjoy!
Hint: Doughnuts are always best served fresh, so if you aren't going to eat them all in one day, save some of the dough to fry another day. And if you know you are going to be frying up doughnuts for a few days in a row as we did, be sure to save your oil to re-use it.
Check out our other valentine ideas for your fun day!
